I Have 99 Problems But My Plenny Shake Is Not One
#1 When was the last time I went to the desert with my shake?
Have you ever asked yourself this question? Okay, maybe not this one in particular, but if you've ever experienced a gritty texture, here's what you need to know. Plant-based proteins are generally less refined and processed, so they tend to have a more real taste and texture. This is actually great, as the less something is processed, the more nutrients it will retain. There are a lot of things that can cause a gritty texture, but there are also a lot of ways to reduce it. Most of the time you just have to shake your smoothie a little bit more. If you have an extra minute; use a blender. We're not cavemen anymore, so why not use a nifty tool? Blenders can definitely smooth out any roughness.
If shaking and blending doesn't work, you've probably added too little liquid. Make sure you add 400ml of cold water first before adding two scoops of your desired Plenny Shake flavour (100g/400kcal). You can also try a creamier base. Adding water to your shake is a good base, but if you prefer a smoother texture, plant-based milks such as oat milk, soy milk or rice milk are great.
#2 Oops… I watered down my smoothie too much
Just like with plants, smoothies can also be overwatered. Blending in frozen fruits like berries or mango will likely help create a thicker texture. It will also boost the flavor!
#3 My smoothie turned into warm quicksand
You thought; “Hey, why not stay in bed a little longer and take my smoothie to work?” At work you’re catching up on some emails and you totally lose track of time. After a few hours, you remember that the smoothie is still in your bag. Only now it looks muddy and even worse; it’s warm. Well done, you turned your smoothie into quicksand… Goodbye food? Nope!In this case, we recommend refreshing it by adding something very cold to your smoothie and giving it a quick blend. Of course, most of the time it's best to enjoy your smoothie or shake as fresh as possible, so blend and enjoy. Obviously, you can refrigerate your smoothie, let it sit for an hour or two, or blend it overnight to enjoy in the morning. But it's best to give your smoothie that extra fresh glow by adding ice cubes or putting some cold berries on top of the smoothie before enjoying it.
#4 Help, my smoothie is overdosing on love!
Remember that day you wanted your smoothie to be tasty so you added some juice and fruits to it but instead you ended up with a smoothie that was too sweet? This is the first sign of overdosing your smoothie with too much love. If you like to neutralize the sweetness of your smoothie. Add some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, anise or add some cocoa powder or instant coffee. Another symptom of too much love is overcomplicating things, for example adding too many unnecessary things like almond milk, chia seeds, flaxseed oil and fresh acerola cherries. Of course, there is nothing wrong with adding a little extra love to your Plenny Shake – do your part!Just, keep in mind that you can easily increase the calorie count without any added benefit. Remember; our meals already have the right amount of protein, essential fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals! Another way to show too much affection to your smoothies is to literally go too far. There’s no need to step up your scoop game if you’re not a professional athlete. It will only provide more waist-expanding calories, so it’s best to stick to the recipe. For the record: 1 scoop = 200 kcal (same as one avocado). 2 scoops = 400 kcal (same as poached eggs with mashed avocado and tomatoes).
We wisely advise you to stay away from overdosing on love by adding extra spoonfuls or (sweet) ingredients. Like lying in a field surrounded by cubs, while watching a video of pandas sneezing, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing…
#5 Oh shit, I forgot to save the planet...
You did what?! You used milk instead of water? Oh no…We always suggest going for the option with the lowest impact on our environment. That's why we recommend mixing our powders with water in the first place. If you like to add more "smoothness" to your smoothies, iced tea or plant-based drinks like oat, soy, coconut or rice milk are also good options. In short, plants just require a lot less land and water than dairy products, making them a more environmentally friendly option. Plus, the CO2 emissions from plants are lower compared to milk. Of course, it's still up to you, but next time, challenge yourself to consider an alternative base that's friendlier to our precious earth. <3

- The student-style blender: When pouring water on the powder, don't put a lid on and start stirring, first use a regular knife to mix the water and powder, just like stirring tea and sugar. Also, it's very easy for the powder to get into the corners. - Raiko O.
- Is it hot?: Make the water hot, this really brings out the flavor. - Andreas G.
- Let it sit in the Arctic: Improve the flavor by leaving the smoothie in the refrigerator for at least an hour or overnight. - Noby T.
- Be creative: mix up flavors if you get bored with the variety of flavors after a while. - Philip S.
- The "CLICK": Make sure the lid is really closed with a "click" sound before shaking... - Lorna R.
