How Sustainable Is Jimmy Joy?

Food Waste & Greenhouse Gas Emissions

We Homo Sapiens love food, but somehow we end up throwing away 40% of all the food we produce.

That's because we often throw away leftovers or buy so much food that we can't even eat it. And so we watch our joyful produce slowly wither away until, eventually, we have to throw it away.

Given that food waste accounts for about 8% of all man-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions , you could say this is a big problem.

But at Jimmy Joy, we have come up with some solutions to this problem.
  • First of all, Plenny meals have exactly 400 kcal per serving. This makes it extremely easy to keep track of your daily calories. And because the portions are pre-measured, you can easily increase or decrease the size of your meal. Eat only what you need – no more leftovers.
  • Secondly, Plenny meals have a shelf life of 12 months. So no more worrying about expiration dates or helplessly watching your food disappear! You can simply relax and take all the time you need to finish your meals, while at the same time being a solution to a global problem.

Reduce, reuse, recycle: breaking down our packaging

100% Carbon Neutral

According to the FAO ( Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), 33% of all man-made GHG emissions come from the food system. Yes, that’s a lot. And that’s why we wanted to take responsibility for our part by partnering with Pachama .

Pachama's mission is to "restore nature to solve climate change." They do this not only by planting trees and creating new forests, but also by actively preserving and enhancing existing forests for optimal CO2 storage.

This partnership means we are offsetting 100% of the carbon emissions caused by our business.

In other words: we are 100% carbon neutral!

So far, we've offset 103 tons of carbon emissions . That's like taking 22 passenger cars off the road for an entire year! And we're far from done.

Packaging Materials

Because our foods are so high in calories, the amount of packaging material needed per calorie is much less than for most other food products. Plus, our packaging is mostly recyclable .
