Plenny Shake v2.1 is here
TL;DR
- Increase protein from 15 grams to 20 grams.
- More and greater diversity of fibers.
- Maltodextrin content decreased -50%.
- Improved bioavailability of micronutrients.
- Fluoride removal.
As always, we're on a mission to make healthier food scientifically possible. Based on feedback from our amazing community and research done by our wickedly smart product development team (to which we've added two research analysts by the way), we've made a recipe update to our old favorite: Plenny Shake.
Macronutrient adjustments
A change in the macronutrient profile: Protein per serving has increased 15 grams to 20 grams per serving [1]. Carbohydrate content decreases from 52 grams per serving to 44 grams per serving. Therefore, less carbs - any gourmet Instagram health model would approve. The content of fiber and fat has increased slightly.
One serving of Plenny Shake v2.1 provides 400 kcal: 32% from fat, 44% from carbs and 20% from protein.
Micronutrient adjustments
Vitamin K
The vitamin K in Plenny Shake has been changed to vitamin K2 Mk7 because we have researched that this source has the best absorption in the body. [6] [7]
Vitamin C
On top of that, the vitamin C content has been increased to 200 mg per day for maximum health benefits [8] [9]. More vitamin C – we are helping our dear customers avoid scurvy!
Vitamin B12The level of vitamin B12 in Plenny Shake has been dramatically increased. Because vegan forms of B12 are less bioavailable, we made sure that the absorption in your body is where it should be. The vegan form of vitamin B12 cannot be used directly by the body, as it must first be broken down into two bioactive coenzymes. There are - bear with us - four metabolic steps required for this process. The necessary conversion constitutes a metabolic disadvantage, and, bear with us, a portion is excreted on top of that before it is converted. An absorption of 140 mcg of cyanocobalamin provides the body with - bear with us - 2.76 mcg of cyanocobalamin [10] [11] [12] [13] [14].
Fluoride
We also removed fluoride from our micronutrients. Fluoride's role is to prevent tooth decay. Brushing your teeth with a toothpaste containing fluoride is the most effective way to prevent this, which is why we removed it [2] [3] [4] [5]. Long story short: just brush your teeth, stop expecting us to do everything for you!
Ingredient Updates:
We added inulin to increase the amount of fiber per serving and achieve a wider variety. It is extracted from chicory, which sounds like we brutally operated on a Pokémon, but we didn't, chicory is a plant. Lastly, we decreased the maltodextrin content by 50%.
On top of that, we added soy protein isolate to boost the protein level per meal just right, so Plenny Shake still provides all 9 essential amino acids.
Soy is low in carbohydrates but high in protein. It is a good source of protein because it has a much lower ecological footprint than animal protein, has a complete amino acid profile and a protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS) of 1.00 [1], which is the best possible score. It is much better than other plant-based protein sources, for example rice 0.42 or pea 0.7 [15] [16]
